A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Cecilia Harbison; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the heartfelt loss of Mrs. Cecilia Harbison with her
passing on March 21, 2012; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Harbison was born on February 21, 1950, in Thomasville, Georgia, a beloved
daughter of Jesse and Emma McIntyre; and
WHEREAS,
eager to learn, Mrs. Harbison attended Columbus State University where she
earned a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and later earned a
master's degree in counseling from Troy University; and
WHEREAS,
a passionate and enthusiastic educator and counselor, Mrs. Harbison dedicated 16
years of service to the students of the Muscogee County School District and six
years in the Gwinnett County School System; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Harbison's devotion to educating the young minds of this state was further
shown by the Counseling Curriculum Module she developed for the Georgia
Department of Education, her service on the textbook review team for social
studies, language arts, science, and math, and her co-development of and
participation in a school district wide discipline policy; and
WHEREAS,
she was united in love and marriage to Senator Ed Harbison and was blessed with
the loving support of two remarkable children, Edward and Ladena, and five
wonderful grandchildren who brought her immense pride and joy; and
WHEREAS,
she was an inspirational woman whose kindheartedness and devotion toward
everyone around her were greatly admired; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of tremendous strengths with an unconditional love for family,
friends, and education and, by the example she made of her life, she made this
world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Harbison's significant organizational and leadership talents and her deep
personal commitment to the education of students earned her the respect and
admiration of her colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
while in life she commanded the esteem of her fellow Georgians and friends, in
her passing we mingle our sympathies with the grief of her family, friends, and
fellow citizens.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Cecilia Harbison and express their deepest
and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Cecilia
Harbison.
