A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Pastor James Cornell Ward on the occasion of his 17th pastoral
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Pastor James Cornell Ward has devoted 17 years to preaching the word of God and
leading the congregation in the St. Mountain/Lithonia community;
and
WHEREAS,
he was granted a scholarship from Henry County Training School in Abbeville,
Alabama and began his education at Morehouse College where he earned a
bachelor's degree in philosophy and German, a master of divinity degree in
church administration from New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and a bachelor's degree
in accounting from the University of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS,
Pastor Ward received his call to the ministry in 1981 and served with faith and
devotion as pastor of St. James Baptist Church and Mt. Enon for more than seven
years each and is currently at Antioch-Lithonia Missionary Baptist Church;
and
WHEREAS,
during his leadership at Antioch-Lithonia Missionary Baptist Church the church
has seen many great accomplishments, including entering into a new era,
relocation to a new house of worship, and being a recipient of the KABOOM
Project; and
WHEREAS,
active in his community, Pastor Ward is involved in many organizations,
including the DeKalb County History Center, the Baylor Hymn Project, Howard
University Gospel Choir, the Spelman Glee Club, Albany State University Gospel
Choir, Chaplain of the Day in the Senate chambers, and the Bahamas Consulate
General Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
he has received numerous honors, including the Atlanta Gospel Choice Award;
and
WHEREAS,
Pastor Ward is united in love and marriage to Idell Ward, and together they are
blessed with three remarkable children, Daryl, Rebecca, and Carmen, and 11
delightful grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Pastor Ward's many achievements will stand as symbols of dignity, pride, and
honor for his congregation and the citizens of this state for generations to
come, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of
God's message of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his
innumerable good works rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Pastor James Cornell Ward for the leadership and guidance he provides to the
members of his church and the surrounding community and congratulate him on the
wonderful occasion of his 17th pastoral anniversary.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Pastor James Cornell Ward.
