A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Going the Green Mile Expo and Eco-opportunity Symposium Series; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, for the first time in human history, half of the world's population lives in cities, a figure which is expected to grow to 70 percent by the year 2050; and

WHEREAS, although cities occupy just 2 percent of the world's landmass, they are responsible for more than two-thirds of the global energy use and greenhouse gas emissions; and

WHEREAS, the Going the Green Mile Expo and Eco-opportunity Symposium Series will highlight workshops and seminars to help establish productive partnerships between Atlanta's businesses and public entities for sustainable urban living and best practices; and

WHEREAS, with a theme of "From Waste to Wealth," the Going the Green Mile Expo and Eco-ppportunity Symposium Series brings together e-business and e-technology industries and expert speakers to provide valuable information for local and international green business owners; and

WHEREAS, the conference facilitates the creation of business networks that will create new markets for suppliers, new sources for business product buyers, and connections with potential business investors; and

WHEREAS, the conference is sponsoring a youth entrepreneurial summit called the Green Idol which will empower communities through the use of interactive e-technologies towards entrepreneurship, education courses, and tutorials; and

WHEREAS, it is within the power of each individual to fundamentally change the environment and ensure quality of life for future generations; and
WHEREAS, the Going the Green Mile Expo and Eco-opportunity Symposium Series are excellent events that highlight the impact humans have upon the global environment and provide ways in which municipalities, corporations, and individuals can decrease carbon footprints and change the world.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Going the Green Mile Expo and Eco-opportunity Symposium Series for its dedicated efforts to providing information and a venue for collaboration to address the environmental issues facing this and future generations.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Going the Green Mile Expo and Eco-opportunity Symposium Series.
