A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Housing Authority of Clayton County; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Housing Authority of Clayton County (HACC) was created in 1982 by the Clayton County Board of Commissioners to act as a conduit for providing tax exempt financing to developers building affordable housing in the Clayton County area; and

WHEREAS, the HACC is focused on rehabilitating low to moderate income households and providing grants and support to organizations that serve the housing needs of Clayton County; and

WHEREAS, the HACC is led by a group of dedicated and passionate five-member Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and an executive director, who diligently and conscientiously devoted their time, talents, and energy to improving the lives of residents in Clayton County; and

WHEREAS, in 2008, the HACC formed the Clayton County Foreclosure Resource Center (CCFRC), a multi-agency partnership organized to address the foreclosure crisis in the county and includes the dedicated efforts of the Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity, Metro South Association of REALTORS, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta, D&E, A Financial Education and Training Institute, Inc., and Higher Living Christian Church Community Impact Center, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, the HACC initially invested more than $50,000 of its own funds to the CCFRC which was used for public education, information, and foreclosure services, provided an additional $97,500 for future initiatives, and invested $500,000 for the center's neighborhood stabilization program; and

WHEREAS, the CCFRC provides Clayton County residents assistance in dealing with foreclosure through targeted mailings, a secure hotline to answer homeowner's questions, educational workshops, free counseling sessions with HUD-approved mortgage counselors, and a website with helpful programs, links, and resources; and

WHEREAS, the HACC, through its foreclosure center and other programs and initiatives, provides decent, safe, and sanitary housing for low to moderate income residents of Clayton County, one family at a time.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend the Housing Authority of Clayton County for its many accomplishments and contributions to Clayton County and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Housing Authority of Clayton County.
