A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Moses Walker family; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Moses Walker family will honor its roots and celebrate its branches when the members reunite July 30 - August 1, 2010; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 reunion will mark the 7th occasion on which the members of the Moses Walker family have gathered to honor one another and reconnect; and

WHEREAS, the Moses Walker family has a rich tradition and history, with family members across the United States representing a variety of professions from all walks of life; and

WHEREAS, members of the Moses Walker family will travel from across the nation to attend this joyous event; and

WHEREAS, Moses Walker was from Moultrie, Georgia, and is believed to have lived longer than any individual in Georgia or this nation when he left this world in 1921 at the age of 128; and

WHEREAS, known as "Uncle Mose," Moses Walker was raised in Muscogee County and, prior to the Civil War, was owned by a wealthy family of Walkers; and

WHEREAS, Moses Walker was known to retell his memories of important periods in this nation's history, such as Indians being driven from Georgia, hauling supplies from the plantation to the armies engaged in the Civil War, the outbreak of the war with Great Britain in 1812, and the United States war with Mexico in 1848; and

WHEREAS, the fine citizens who compose the Moses Walker family are made strong in their unity and faith and exemplify the best in American family life; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the gathering of this great family be recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the Moses Walker family on the joyous occasion of its 7th annual reunion on July 30 - August 1, 2010, heartily welcome all visitors to the State of Georgia, and extend best wishes for continued good fortune and prosperity.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mary E. Scott, great-granddaughter of Moses Walker.
