A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Stuart Gulley; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Stuart Gulley has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that he has played in the field of education and his deep personal
commitment to the improving the lives Georgia students; and
WHEREAS,
an ordained United Methodist minister, Dr. Gulley earned a bachelor's degree
from Vanderbilt University, a master's degree from the Candler School of
Theology at Emory University, and a doctoral degree from Georgia State
University; and
WHEREAS,
this highly respected professional educator and administrator has dedicated over
20 years to higher education, holding various roles in leadership throughout the
years, including his current position as President of Woodward Academy in
College Park, Georgia, the largest college preparatory school in the continental
United States with 2,800 students; and
WHEREAS,
he has served as president of LaGrange College, associate vice president for
university development and church relations at Emory University, and director of
development and director of admissions and student placement for the Candler
School of Theology at Emory University; and
WHEREAS,
a notable author, Dr. Gulley has made contributions to the
LaGrange Daily
News and
The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution and is a member of
the board of directors for the Roosevelt Warm Springs Rehabilitation Development
Fund; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Gulley has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including a
Shining Light Award from the LaGrange City Council, a G. Ray Jordan Award from
the Candler School of Theology, a Paul Thiele Leadership Award from the Georgia
Foundation for Independent Colleges, and a Francis Asbury Award from the Georgia
Commission on United Methodist High Education; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Gulley is united in love and marriage to his supportive wife, Kathleen
Crenshaw, and he has been blessed with two sons, Andrew and Matthew;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual upon his exciting
and challenging career move.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily
and gratefully commend Dr. Stuart Gulley for his sacrifice, foresight,
accomplishments, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and
recognize the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of
countless young people in this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Stuart Gulley.
