A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the importance of good oral health for Georgia's children and declaring February as Children's Dental Health Month; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, guarding the health of our youth is imperative for society, and the physical and mental health of our children are critical to the future well-being of this state and development of our nation; and

WHEREAS, an important component of a child's overall health is oral health, and learning and maintaining a routine of good oral hygiene is a primary step in the development of a healthy body; and

WHEREAS, educational programs in support of good dental health habits for children and youth and support of fluoridation of public water supplies are instrumental in preventing dental disease; and

WHEREAS, adults are urged to ensure that children brush their teeth carefully at least twice a day, floss their teeth once a day, visit a dental office for preventive checkups and cleanings, and eat a well-balanced diet, avoiding excessive snacks between meals; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Dental Association has provided educational opportunities and dental screenings for school children since 1950 to commemorate Children's Dental Health Month.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize February as Children̓s Dental Health Month in Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the executive director of the Georgia Dental Association.
