RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the importance of good oral health for Georgia's children and declaring February
as Children's Dental Health Month; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
guarding the health of our youth is imperative for society, and the physical and
mental health of our children are critical to the future well-being of this
state and development of our nation; and
WHEREAS,
an important component of a child's overall health is oral health, and learning
and maintaining a routine of good oral hygiene is a primary step in the
development of a healthy body; and
WHEREAS,
educational programs in support of good dental health habits for children and
youth and support of fluoridation of public water supplies are instrumental in
preventing dental disease; and
WHEREAS,
adults are urged to ensure that children brush their teeth carefully at least
twice a day, floss their teeth once a day, visit a dental office for preventive
checkups and cleanings, and eat a well-balanced diet, avoiding excessive snacks
between meals; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Dental Association has provided educational opportunities and dental
screenings for school children since 1950 to commemorate Children's Dental
Health Month.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
February as Children̓s Dental Health Month in Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the executive director of
the Georgia Dental Association.
