RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Officer Dorminey McCrae; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Officer Dorminey McCrae is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and
state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity
and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
Officer McCrae was recently honored as Top Cop in the nation for his courageous
actions and quick thinking that resulted in saving the life of a hostage;
and
WHEREAS,
on April 7, 2008, Officer McCrae responded to an armed robbery call at a local
market in which the offender had taken a 16-year-old girl hostage at gun point;
and
WHEREAS,
Officer McCrae slipped into the store unnoticed and was able to position himself
on top of an ice cream freezer to gain sight into the room where the robber was
holding the girl hostage; and
WHEREAS,
through persistence and stealth, Officer McCrae was able to make eye contact
with the hostage, unbeknownst to the robber, and motioned for her to back away,
as he shot the robber, which allowed her to escape unharmed; and
WHEREAS,
for his brave and valiant actions, Officer McCrae was invited to the White House
to be recognized along with ten other law enforcement officers from around the
nation; and
WHEREAS,
at this prestigious event it was announced that Officer McCrae had been chosen
from his fellow officers in attendance to receive the national title of Top Cop;
and
WHEREAS,
Officer McCrae has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding
loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties,
and his efficient and effective commitment to excellence has been continually
recognized by his peers; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their
gratitude for the unique and often unheralded contributions of Officer McCrae
and all local law enforcement officers on behalf of the citizens of this
state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the care, courage, and selfless dedication exhibited by Officer Dorminey McCrae
in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation and congratulate him upon
his recognition as National Top Cop.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Officer Dorminey McCrae.
