BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Article 3 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to state symbols, so as to designate the Georgia Mass Choir
as Georgia's official mass choir; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Mass Choir, one of the most highly acclaimed gospel choirs in this
country, has featured some of the finest singers in this state since the choir's
inception more than 15 years ago; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Mass Choir has gloriously represented Georgia before the world at
events such as the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, in major motion pictures such
as The Preacher's
Wife, and on television programs such as
Saturday Night
Live, the
Today
Show, and
Good Morning
America; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Mass Choir is not only the predominant vocal gospel powerhouse of
this state but is also an important cultural icon; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Mass Choir has been celebrated and recognized year after year for
its talent and contributions with Stellar, Grammy, and Dove Award nominations
for its recorded hits on its eight spectacular albums; and
WHEREAS,
as the Georgia Mass Choir has added immeasurably to the cultural, economic, and
social development of Georgia, it is only fitting that the Georgia Mass Choir be
recognized as Georgia's official mass choir.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Article
3 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to state symbols, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as
follows:
"50-3-85.
The
Georgia Mass Choir is designated as Georgia's official mass
choir."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
