A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Code Section 20-2-690.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to mandatory education for children between ages six and 16, so as to change the ages of mandatory education; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Code Section 20-2-690.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to mandatory education for children between ages six and 16, is amended by revising subsection (a) as follows:
"(a) Mandatory attendance in a public school, private school, or home school program shall be required for children between their sixth fifth and sixteenth seventeenth birthdays. Such mandatory attendance shall not be required where the child is not eligible for enrollment under Code Section 20-2-150; has successfully completed all requirements for a high school diploma, a general educational development (GED) equivalency diploma, a special diploma, or a certificate of high school completion; is enrolled in an adult literacy program, postsecondary technical school, or adult vocational center; or provides a signed agreement between the student and the student's parents or parent or guardian and the student's principal or the superintendent of the student's school system which states that the student has enrolled in a certified general educational development program."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
