RESOLUTION
Commending
the Brain Tumor Foundation For Children, Inc., and recognizing May as Brain
Tumor Awareness Month; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
close to 63,000 people will be diagnosed with a brain tumor annually,
approximately 4,000 whom are children; and
WHEREAS,
primary brain tumors occur statistically more frequently in children and older
adults; and
WHEREAS,
brain tumors may be either malignant or benign, but can be life-threatening in
either case; and
WHEREAS,
brain tumors are the most common of the solid tumors in children, and the
leading cause of death from solid tumors in children under 20; and
WHEREAS,
there is a need for greater awareness of brain tumors and brain cancer on the
part of the public, including awareness of symptoms and warning signs, treatment
options, research needs, and public policy implications; and
WHEREAS,
the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children, Inc., is recognized for providing
social, emotional, informational, and financial support to families affected by
pediatric brain tumors.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Brain Tumor Foundation For Children, Inc., for their
commitment and dedication to the important issue of pediatric brain tumors and
recognize May as Brain Tumor Awareness Month in Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Speaker of the House is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Brain Tumor Foundation
for Children, Inc.
