RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend H. Ray Newman, Sr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend H. Ray Newman, Sr., has demonstrated his commitment to teaching the
Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical,
psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Newman was born on September 18, 1944, in Phenix City, Alabama, the
beloved son of Harvey and Lena Newman; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Central High School, Reverend Newman earned a bachelor's degree
from Columbus College and a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Newman was called by the Lord at the age of 19 to lead the congregation
of Pittsview Baptist Church and over the years has served as pastor to Shady
Woods Baptist Church, Norris Road Baptist Church, Chase Memorial Baptist Church,
Forrest Park Baptist Church, and Liberty Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
he was called to the Georgia Baptist Convention (GBC) to serve as a state
missionary in 1990 and has traveled internationally to the former Soviet Union,
South Korea, China, Panama, and other countries; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure with the GBC, Reverend Newman has preached around Georgia in
over 300 churches, served as interim pastor for ten churches in Georgia and
Alabama, and lobbied at the state capitol on the GBC's behalf; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Newman has recently retired from full time work for the GBC and has
accepted the call to pastor Macedonia Community Baptist Church in Braselton;
and
WHEREAS,
he is united in love and marriage to his high school sweetheart, Gwen, and he
has been blessed with the support of his children, Rusty and Laura Newman, and
his four grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Reverend H. Ray Newman, Sr., on his years of service to the
Lord and the State of Georgia and extend best wishes for successful fellowship
and leadership in his new church.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend H.
Ray Newman, Sr.
