RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Master Sergeant Joe Ed Scruggs; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Master Sergeant Joe Ed Scruggs on March 11, 2009;
and
WHEREAS,
Joe Scruggs was born in Knoxville, Georgia, on January 16, 1920, a beloved son
of the late George P. and Effie Culverhouse Scruggs; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Air Force, serving in World War II and the Korean War and honorably
retiring following 21 years of heroic military service; and
WHEREAS,
Master Sergeant Scruggs humbly served his community as a school bus driver for
17 years as an employee of the Floyd County Board of Education; and
WHEREAS,
his dedication to his community was further evidenced by his active service with
the American Legion Post #5, where he also served as an honor guard, the 40/8
V.F.W. Post #4911 of Rome, Georgia, and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association;
and
WHEREAS,
Master Sergeant Joe Ed Scruggs was united in love and marriage to his adoring
wife, the late Lucille Ingram, to whom he was married on July 26, 1958;
and
WHEREAS,
he was a faithful member of Vann's Valley United Methodist Church;
and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of great strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Master Sergeant Scruggs will long be
remembered for his love of family, community, and country, and this loyal
husband, neighbor, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of
knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Master Sergeant Joe Ed Scruggs
and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Master Sergeant Joe Ed Scruggs.
