RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Buy Bartow-Work Bartow Campaign; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Bartow County has always been a community of faith, hard work, and outstanding
individuals, who rise to the occasion to help and serve their neighbors;
and
WHEREAS,
in recent years, Bartow County has been in the midst of one of the most
devastating recessions in recent history, with unemployment at 11.6 percent,
representing 5,264 members of the county's workforce, as of December 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
the Carterville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce and members of the Bartow
community have resolved to join together to "Buy Bartow" whenever possible;
and
WHEREAS,
by buying locally, whenever possible, the citizens of Bartow will unleash a
powerful force and economic stimulus for their own neighbors; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to buying local goods and services, the businesses, schools,
governments, and nonprofit organizations of Bartow have been encouraged to hire
locally; and
WHEREAS,
a beautiful bell is located in the old First Baptist Church in Bartow which was
cast in New York City by The Meneely Bell Co., the same foundry that repaired
the country's Liberty Bell; and
WHEREAS,
this bell has been rung in times of great challenge, adversity, victory, and
celebration and during the Buy Bartow-Work Bartow Campaign it will be rung every
time a Bartow County resident is hired.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the Buy Bartow-Work Bartow Campaign and commend the
residents of Bartow County for their efforts to support their neighbors in these
challenging economic times.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
Carterville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce.
