RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Doug J. Marchand; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Doug J. Marchand has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment
to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Marchand diligently and conscientiously devotes innumerable hours of his
time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the Georgia Ports
Authority where he serves with honor and distinction as Executive Director;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Marchand's outstanding contributions to the State of Georgia have earned him
induction into the International Maritime Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS,
founded in 1993, the International Maritime Hall of Fame recognizes maritime
visionaries, who exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking that will guide
maritime industry in the 21st century; and
WHEREAS,
as director of the Georgia Ports Authority, Mr. Marchand operates the authority
with an annual budget of $250 million, manages 1,000 employees, and has
transformed Georgia's maritime industry into a dynamic economic engine;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Marchand has created unique opportunities for success at the Ports of
Savannah and Brunswick and set industry standards that have earned him the
respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Doug J. Marchand for his efficient, effective, unselfish,
and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and congratulate him upon
the prestigious honor of being inducted into the International Maritime Hall of
Fame.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Doug J.
Marchand.
