RESOLUTION
Congratulating
the South Atlanta High School boys basketball team on winning the 2009 Class AAA
State Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
through perseverance and iron determination, the South Atlanta High School boys
basketball team earned the top ranking in the state with their 81-62 win over
Westover High School; and
WHEREAS,
the title-earning win by the Hornets completed their impressive season ranked
fifth in the state with wins; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, the unity of purpose and spirit
of each member of the team, and their superb offensive and defensive talents;
and
WHEREAS,
the team's stellar season was achieved due to the astute direction of Head Coach
Michael Reddick and assistant coaches Jamaal Steagal, Kalum Banks, Stacy Merrit,
and Alvie Thompkins; and
WHEREAS,
the champion team was composed of talented athletes: Andre Malone, Rodrick
Pitts, Orlando Stephens, Jershawn Jackson, Nicholas Watkins, Don Glass, Jarontae
Dean, Kadeem Etheridge, Mikael Carter, Rashuad Bell, Derrick Favors, Malik
Brown, Derrick Murray, and Nickalus Jacobs; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate the South Atlanta High School boys basketball team on
winning the Class AAA State Championship and extend their sincere best wishes
for future success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the coaches
and players of the South Atlanta High School boys basketball team.
