A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Georgia School Boards Association on 60 years of stellar service to local boards of education in Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) was chartered in 1951 to serve local boards of education; and

WHEREAS, GSBA has provided state and nationally renowned training programs for school board members and educational leaders; and

WHEREAS, through the leadership of its executive director Jeannie M. "Sis" Henry, the association has dramatically improved its grassroots advocacy activities, increased the programs and services offered to local boards, and modeled the use of strategic planning as a method of continuous improvement and operations; and

WHEREAS, GSBA has worked diligently to maintain 100 percent membership of all elected local boards of education through offering programs and services of the highest quality; and

WHEREAS, GSBA has partnered with the Georgia School Superintendents Association to develop a vision for public education in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the association operates under its mission to ensure excellence in the governance of local school systems by providing leadership, advocacy, and services, and by representing the collective resolve of Georgia's 180 elected boards of education; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Georgia School Boards Association on its 60 years of service to public education and school board governance in Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia School Boards Association.
