A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Anne Barr; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Anne Barr has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to promoting women and girls in athletics; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Barr's love of athletics began at an early age, finding joy in the camaraderie and competition provided by sports such as softball and basketball; and

WHEREAS, in high school she earned a reputation for her excellent athletic ability and leadership skills by lettering in track, volleyball, and basketball and later became captain of the first Briarcliff traveling softball team; and

WHEREAS, a native of Atlanta who has called Decatur her home her entire life, Ms. Barr serves as commissioner and founder of the Decatur Women's Sports League, which currently has over 1,000 participants and holds leagues for softball, basketball, and bowling, with leagues planned for volleyball, tennis, and badminton; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to uplifting the lives of others, Ms. Barr is active with Meals on Wheels; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Barr's outstanding service to her community has been recognized with a ZAMI Community Activist Award, a Woman of Inspiration Award from Atlanta Dream Basketball, a 2008 Healing Angel Award and a Real Woman article from the Atlanta Health Cancer Initiative, and an Ashe-Stuckey Award from GA WIN; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Ms. Anne Barr for her unselfish and dedicated service with the Decatur Women's Sports League and extend to her their most sincere gratitude for her work for women and girls in athletics.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Anne Barr.
