A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. William C. King; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. William C. King has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. King was born on September 4, 1952, in Pensacola, Florida, the beloved second son of Lillie and Howard King; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of South West High School in Atlanta, Mr. King earned a bachelor's degree from Lincoln University and a law degree from Antioch Law School; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. King was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church by Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Mr. King has worked as personnel and corporate counsel in Washington, D.C., and devoted his time, talents, and energy to serving the public as assistant legal counsel and director of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Equal Opportunity Division; and

WHEREAS, upon his retirement from government service in 2005, Mr. King became a partner at Powell, Lewis, and King law firm in the District of Columbia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. King's colleagues know him as a hard worker, as a man whose convictions are supported by careful and meticulous consideration, and as an impartial leader whose decisions are governed both by law and the rules of honesty and fair play; and

WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS, Mr. King is united in love and marriage to his wife, Gayle Surles King, and he is the proud father of two children, Charles and Kristen; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished gentleman be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. William C. King on his stellar legal career and recognize the amazing work of this outstanding individual.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. William C. King.
