RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Chang Bin Yim and recognizing March 31, 2011, as Chang Bin Yim Day at the
capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Chang Bin Yim of Dalton, Georgia, immigrated to the United States in 1958
from Seoul, South Korea, with nothing more than a well-known Korean name;
and
WHEREAS,
after 53 years in the United States, Mr. Yim has left a legacy of success and
achievement in America and Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Yim came to America upon his graduation from high school to attend Central
Missouri State University in Kansas City after his family believed he was not
being challenged in Seoul due to his prestigious family name; and
WHEREAS,
although he had difficulty understanding English when he arrived in America, Mr.
Yim studied diligently and excelled in math and chemistry at Central Missouri
State University while working odd jobs to pay his tuition; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Yim earned bachelor's degrees in math and chemistry from Central Missouri
State University and went on to obtain a master's degree in statistics from the
University of Missouri; and
WHEREAS,
he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Alice, in 1964 and moved to
Dalton in 1965 to accept a position as a chemist with Textile Rubber and
Chemical Company; and
WHEREAS,
as he worked his way up to the position of vice president with Textile Rubber
and Chemical Company, Mr. Yim started a total of 25 independent businesses that
involved the exchange of goods between America and Asia, and through these
business ventures, became a millionaire many times over;
and
WHEREAS, a community leader, Mr. Yim has served as president of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce and been a driving force for the organization; and

WHEREAS,
Mr. Yim has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including South
Korea's highest government honor, Mukkungwa, and the Ellis Island Medal of
Honor; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate man, Mr. Yim and his wife founded Respect and Honor Your
Elderly, which they support financially and which benefits four Dalton area
nursing homes and their staffs; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the numerous achievements of Mr. Chang Bin Yim and recognize
March 31, 2011, as Chang Bin Yim Day in honor of his birthday.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Chang Bin
Yim.
