RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending The Friends School of Atlanta on the occasion of its 20th
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
The Friends School of Atlanta draws on the Quaker values of truth, simplicity,
peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship to empower students to
enter the world with conscience, conviction, and compassion; and
WHEREAS,
located in Decatur, Georgia, The Friends School of Atlanta addresses the range
of human development for students, emphasizing the intellectual, social,
physical, and spiritual, and seeks to meet each child at her or his
developmental level and challenge that child to discover the full range of her
or his abilities; and
WHEREAS,
The Friends School nurtures enthusiasm in the classroom and a love for learning
that will last a lifetime; and
WHEREAS,
all systems of faith and belief are welcomed at The Friends School, and many are
represented in the school's faculty, staff, student body, and board of trustees;
and
WHEREAS,
students at The Friends School learn to explore nonviolent solutions to problems
based upon a fundamental respect for the worth of all other individuals and
become acquainted with and participate in group decision-making by a process of
consensus-building; and
WHEREAS,
The Friends School will hold events throughout 2011 in honor of the school's
20th anniversary, including its 20th Anniversary Bash on May 28 in which current
students and their families, alumni, alumni families, former faculty and staff,
former trustees, and friends of the school are invited to join in celebrating
this momentous occasion.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend The Friends School of Atlanta on providing students with
quality education and congratulate its students, alumni, faculty, staff,
trustees, and supporters on the grand occasion of its 20th
anniversary.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to The Friends
School of Atlanta.
