A RESOLUTION


Commending the South Dodge Elementary School washboard band and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the South Dodge Elementary School washboard band was formed in 2001 by Ms. Kerry Graham for the Dodge County Relay for Life talent show; and

WHEREAS, after the band won the 2001 talent competition, they began receiving requests to do other performances throughout the Dodge County area; and

WHEREAS, today the band performs throughout Georgia at venues such as nursing homes and healthcare facilities, churches, festivals, civic functions, hospitals, and school functions; and

WHEREAS, under the caring leadership and guidance of Ms. Graham, this amazing group of fourth and fifth grade girls performed in 33 appearances last year alone; and

WHEREAS, the band performs a variety of songs to cater to the preferences of their audiences and their repertoire includes folk, country, Christian, and popular music; and

WHEREAS, the instruments used by these versatile and talented musicians include the washboard, spoons, jugs, tambourines, and washtub bass; and

WHEREAS, members of the 2010-2011 South Dodge Elementary School washboard band include Alora Barden, Lydia Howard, Anna Lora Jones, Annie Knight, Nadia Lewis, Abbey Manning, Abby Christian Manning, Jaisley Peacock, Loryn Solomon, Makylla Underwood, and Georgia Shae Walker; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding music of this fine band be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the South Dodge Elementary School washboard band members for the uplifting service their music has provided countless Georgians and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Kerry Graham.
