RESOLUTION
Congratulating
the Fernbank Elementary School chess team; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
chess is a challenging, centuries-old game that requires intelligence,
concentration, and strategy; and
WHEREAS,
on March 14, 2009, the Fernbank Elementary School chess team prevailed as
champions in the state chess competition for kindergarten through third grade;
and
WHEREAS,
each young chess star demonstrated great strategic thinking, patience, and
tactical skill to earn Fernbank Elementary School's prestigious recognition as a
school that shapes young minds and encourages healthy competition at an early
age; and
WHEREAS,
the team was led to victory by their dedicated and talented coaches, Lew Martin,
David Vest, and Michael Mathias; and
WHEREAS,
the first place team of champions included Arjun Srinivasan, Nikita Agarwal, Ali
Desrochers, Thomas Sudlow, Ted Shepherd, Joseph Padgett, and Albert Liang;
and
WHEREAS,
the gifted students of the Fernbank Elementary School chess team have each
brought honor to their families, school, community, and the State of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the members of the Fernbank Elementary School chess team for
their competitive spirit and exceptional abilities.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Fernbank
Elementary School.
