RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ruben and Novella King; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ruben and Novella King were united in love and marriage on December 30, 1950,
and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past year; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Ruben King, Sr., was born in Wheeler County, Georgia, to the late Tyson and
Iona King and was reared by his grandmother, Pinkie Boatright, and his aunts,
Omie Lee King Mackey Burney and Carrie King Kates; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Novella King was born in Metter, Georgia, the beloved youngest daughter of
the late Reverend Horace and Sallie Wright; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. King asked for his wife's hand in marriage when he was 18 and she was just
14 and their 60 year union and unyielding loyalty and devotion to one another
has served as an inspiration to their family, friends, and neighbors;
and
WHEREAS,
they have been blessed with twelve children, Don, Robbie, Randy, Verdie, Ruben,
Jr., Randall, Richard, Reba D., Reginald, Rex, Fronita, and Russell; and about
83 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to their children, they have helped raise their oldest son's two
grandchildren, Rikki and Roderick, and other grandchildren, family members, and
church family who have needed their assistance and were welcomed with open
doors; and
WHEREAS,
after holding many jobs, the couple established the Ruben King Funeral Home and
held their first funeral service in 1967; and
WHEREAS,
they lived in and raised their children in the funeral home for 30 years, and
five of their children went on to study mortuary and funeral services;
and
WHEREAS, the devotion, patience, and understanding they have demonstrated have provided the foundation and framework of success in which all of their family members have developed and flourished; and

WHEREAS,
community leaders, Mr. and Mrs. King are the founders of the Martin Luther King,
Jr., Parade and Celebration in Glennville and were the inspiration for the
Committee for Social Change; and
WHEREAS,
a couple with deep and abiding faith, the Kings are the two founders of the
Center of Life-Church of God where Mr. King serves as chairman of the deacon
board and trustee and Mrs. King serves as mother of the church and missionary
president; and
WHEREAS,
known for their generosity and kindness, Mr. and Mrs. King have made the world a
better place in which to live, with many incredible contributions to their
family, community, and state; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that Mr. and Mrs. King be congratulated on
their many years of happiness and their magnificent 60 year commitment to each
other.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the amazing lives of Ruben and Novella King and commend
their 60 year commitment to one another.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. and Mrs.
King.
