A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. Gwendolyn S. Taylor on being named Georgia's Middle School Principal of the Year; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Gwendolyn S. Taylor has dedicated over 25 years to improving the lives of children in Houston County, Georgia, through her work as an educator and principal, and she has recently been recognized as Georgia's Middle School Principal of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Taylor earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Fort Valley State College, an educational specialist degree in middle grades education from Georgia Southwestern, and an educational specialist degree in leadership and administration and a doctor of education degree from the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she began her career in education as a science teacher at Bert Rumble Middle School, where she was nominated for Earth Science Teacher of the Year, served as a member of the Superintendent Textbook Adoption Committee, and was awarded Teacher of the Year for 1990-91; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, Dr. Taylor joined Tabor Middle School as assistant principal, helping to lead the school for three years before returning to Bert Rumble Middle School to serve as the school's principal; and

WHEREAS, she was instrumental in ensuring the smooth transition of Bert Rumble Middle School to the new Huntington Middle School in 2005, helping students, faculty, and staff adjust to the their new surroundings; and

WHEREAS, as a principal, Dr. Taylor's school has been selected as a Georgia School of Excellence, and since at Huntington Middle School the school has earned the Silver Cup Award from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement and was selected as a Title I Distinguished School for five years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Taylor is a shining example of the quality educators committed to public education both in Houston County and the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Dr. Gwendolyn S. Taylor on her dedication to the education of Georgia's youth and congratulate her upon her well deserved recognition as Georgia's Middle School Principal of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Gwendolyn S. Taylor.
