RESOLUTION
Commending
Master Sergeant Martin Glenn Barrett; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their
personal lives on hold and place themselves in harm's way in order to protect
the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and
WHEREAS,
Master Sergeant Barrett, born on March 6, 1961, has long been recognized by the
citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and
his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United
States; and
WHEREAS,
this native son of Cairo, Georgia, and 1979 graduate of Brookwood School, has
diligently and conscientiously served his country with honor and distinction as
a member of the Georgia National Guard since 1983; and
WHEREAS,
this extraordinary man has demonstrated continuously throughout his military
career unwavering heroism, valor, and ability; and
WHEREAS,
Master Sergeant Barrett has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable
hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his state and
nation as evidenced dramatically by his many years of service which includes
serving with the 48th Brigade during Desert Shield/Desert Storm; in Afghanistan
as the NCOIC of an Embedded Transition Team, mentoring and training the Afghan
National Army; and as an instructor and course manager at the Regional Training
Institute in Macon, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
his courage and many achievements have been recognized with numerous awards
which include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the Georgia
Commendation Medal, the Georgia Meritorious Service Medal, and the Expert
Infantry Badge; and
WHEREAS,
this motorcycle and Motocross enthusiast has been employed with the City of
Cairo Utilities Department for 23 years and is actively involved in the
community, volunteering his time to assist with the annual Relay for Life and
Christmas parade; and
WHEREAS,
his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of
human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the
outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be
recognized appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Master Sergeant Martin Glenn Barrett for his efficient,
effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his
country and state; offer to his family their most profound and sincere
appreciation for him and for all members of the United States military; and
extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Master
Sergeant Martin Glenn Barrett.
