A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Alphonso Andrews; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Alphonso Andrews on March 13, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews was born and raised in Tunnel Springs, Alabama, graduated from Conecuh County Training School, and earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from Alabama A&M University; and

WHEREAS, he relocated to Burke County, Georgia, in 1968, working with the United States Department of Agriculture for 30 years until his retirement as a supervisor and worked as a loan officer at Capitol City Bank in Waynesboro for seven years, ensuring businesses, farmers, and homeowners access to affordable loans; and

WHEREAS, an active community leader, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., of Augusta, was a master mason of AURORA Lodge #54 in Waynesboro, and was a member of the Optimist Club in Waynesboro; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Andrews was an active member of West Minister Presbyterian Church, where he served on the board of elders and was a highly respected spiritual leader; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews was united in love and marriage to Hazel Simpson Andrews for 48 wonderful years, and was blessed with two remarkable children, Harriet and Roderick Andrews, and four delightful grandchildren, Jadyn, Shequita, Taren, and Tiah; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Andrews will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Alphonso Andrews and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Alphonso Andrews.
