A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Liberty Day on March 16, 2011; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Liberty Day is a celebration of the work of our nation's fourth president, James
Madison; and
WHEREAS,
the distinguished American patriot, philosopher, and statesman James Madison
wrote many of the articles known as the
Federalist
Papers which endorsed the new Constitution
and provided sound support for our form of government; and
WHEREAS,
as a member of the First Congress of the United States, James Madison introduced
the Bill of Rights, whereupon the first ten amendments to the Constitution were
adopted as enduring liberties inherently held by all; and
WHEREAS,
March 16th marks the birthday of the father of the Constitution, the individual
who had the greatest hand in constructing and interpreting the highest law of
our land; and
WHEREAS,
Liberty Day is a celebration of liberty, instills in people a love and
understanding of the United States Constitution, and sparks a desire to maintain
the freedoms we enjoy because of this inspired document; and
WHEREAS,
Liberty Day gives us the opportunity to remember the past defenders of liberty,
to stir into our hearts a deeper love for and understanding of liberty, and to
appreciate and understand the privileges and responsibilities the government
affords to us all; and
WHEREAS,
it is most fitting that Americans celebrate the freedoms, inalienable rights,
and liberties that are profoundly expressed in the Declaration of Independence
and in our Constitution and that we pay tribute to the political principles and
values that have been the foundation for our great nation.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body endorse the celebration of our nation's Declaration of Independence
and our federal Constitution on Liberty Day.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia
Federation of Republican Women.
