RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Grady B. Vaughn; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Grady B. Vaughn has demonstrated his commitment to teaching the Gospel,
witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical,
psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Vaughn was born in 1927 in Heard County, Georgia, the beloved son of
Lee and Josie Vaughn; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Vaughn was called by the Lord in 1959 to lead the congregation of
Russell Temple A.M.E. Church as the church's first pastor and founder, where he
faithfully served for 44 years; and
WHEREAS,
upon his retirement from the pulpit, Reverend Vaughn returned to school to earn
his GED at age 73, an accomplishment he is greatly proud to have achieved;
and
WHEREAS,
a community leader, Reverend Vaughn has been a member of Newnan Lodge #299 for
57 years and served as a board member of Certified Literacy Is Coweta's Key;
and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Vaughan was chosen to serve as the Grand Marshall of the Martin Luther
King, Jr. Parade in 2007; and
WHEREAS,
he has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades from organizations
such as the NAACP, the Newnan Health Care Service Program, the American Heart
Association, the United Supreme Council PHA, and the Georgia Council of
Deliberation of the United Supreme Council; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Vaughn has been united in love and marriage to his wife, Minnie Potts
Vaughn, for 65 wonderful years, and he has been blessed with four children, nine
grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate Reverend Grady B. Vaughn on his dedicated service to his
congregation and community and extend best wishes for many more years of
successful fellowship and leadership.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend
Grady B. Vaughn.
