A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Mae Bell Leonard Carter; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Mae Bell Leonard Carter on February 25, 2009;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Carter was born on May 29, 1902, and was known for her compassionate
guidance and understanding in the counseling of any friends or neighbors in
need; and
WHEREAS,
she was a woman of deep and abiding faith who was an active member of Friendship
Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served in the Mother Board, the
Eastern Star, the Finance Committee, and worked as the church's clerk and
secretary; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Carter was a proud and shining example of enduring love and affection and
saw her progeny grow and flourish over a span of two descending generations
through the lives of her six children and many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated provided the
foundation and framework of success in which all of her family members have
developed and flourished; and
WHEREAS,
a generous woman, Mrs. Carter enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting, and
helping friends and neighbors by preparing meals for them when they were sick or
helping to alleviate their stress by assisting with their daily chores;
and
WHEREAS,
she was a community advocate and proud to have voted in every election since the
passage of the federal Voting Rights Act; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Mrs.
Mae Bell Leonard Carter.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Mae Bell Leonard Carter.
