A RESOLUTION


Commending the Walton High School girls tennis team and inviting the 2011 team to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Walton High School girls tennis team has secured a reputation for greatness in scholastic and athletic achievements; and

WHEREAS, this talented team holds the title of state champions and the record for consecutive victories in Georgia with an amazing 135 wins in a row; and

WHEREAS, the National Federation of High School Sports had shown the longest winning streak in the State of Georgia was set in 1972 by the Taylor County girls basketball team; and

WHEREAS, on March 3, 2011, the Lady Raider Varsity Tennis team broke this long-standing record and became the new title holders for consecutive wins in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the 2011 Lady Raiders included Ansley Bridges, Emily Harte, Rachel Harte, Claire Marshall, Melissa Mashburn, Amelia McIssac, Marissa Pulido, Katie Wagasky, Maxie Weinberg, and Emily Zabor; and

WHEREAS, members of the varsity tennis team from 2004 to 2011 that helped contribute to the winning streak include Carling Arundel, Christina Brady, Kayla Brady, Ansley Bridges, Cameron Ellis, Stephanie Falcon, Lauren Halliford, Emily Harte, Rachel Harte, Laura Haynes, Lauren Holton, Elizabeth Kilborn, Katie Kilborn, Emily Lauten, Natalie Lauten, Ashley Lawrence, Allison Legg, Casey Mackintosh, Claire Marshall, Melissa Mashburn, Amelia McIssac, Lauren McLeod, Kelly Means, Ai Okamoto, Marissa Pulido, Stephanie Pulido, Katie Rothfritz, Britany Thompson, Kelly Tidwell, Stacy Volkov, Katie Wagasky, Maxie Weinberg, and Emily Zabor; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Walton High School girls tennis team for its unparalleled achievements, congratulate them upon their record-setting season, and invite the 2011 team to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Walton High School girls tennis team.
