A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Ms. Kelly Stopp for outstanding contributions to public education in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Kelly Stopp has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Stopp is a highly respected educator at Meadowcreek Elementary School in Norcross, Georgia, where she serves as a reading specialist; and

WHEREAS, the exceptional instructional practices and teaching methods of Ms. Stopp have led to her selection as one of Georgia's 2010 National Milken Educators of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Milken National Educator Awards is the largest teacher recognition program in the United States, with a national network of over 2,500 honorees since the program's inception in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Stopp was recommended for the honor by a blue ribbon committee of education and policy leaders appointed by the Georgia Department of Education for her dedication and commitment to education, effective instructional practices, and student achievement; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure at Meadowcreek, she has achieved exemplary educational accomplishments beyond the classroom that provide models of excellence for the teaching profession, demonstrated strong long-range potential for professional and policy leadership, and engaged and inspired the students, teachers, and parents she surrounds; and

WHEREAS, nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young people, and Ms. Stopp has, during her teaching career, exemplified the selfless dedication and professionalism which are characteristic of our finest educators; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this body join in expressing appreciation to Ms. Stopp for her outstanding efforts and accomplishments in professional education.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize, commend, and congratulate Ms. Kelly Stopp upon her selection as a Milken Educator and express their gratitude for the great credit this fine educator reflects upon the City of Norcross and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Kelly Stopp.
