A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Wiregrass Georgia Technical College; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College has been recognized with the prestigious honor of being named the 2010 Technical College of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Governor Sonny Perdue Award for Technical College of the Year is presented annually to the top college in the Technical College System of Georgia and is awarded based on two dozen performance criteria, including enrollment numbers, graduation rate, student retention, job placement rate, cost efficiency, completions in adult education programs, and trends in specialized workforce training; and

WHEREAS, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is the first recipient of this distinguished award and was recognized for its high standards of excellence and achievement among this state's 26 technical colleges; and

WHEREAS, formed after the merger of Valdosta Technical College and East Central Technical College, Wiregrass has seen a surge in enrollment of 34 percent in 2010 and a graduating class of 756, which was a 16 percent increase over the previous year's graduation rate; and

WHEREAS, in 2010, the school improved its operational efficiencies by reducing its average expenditure per student, lowered administrative costs, improved student retention, and increased the job placement rate for graduates; and

WHEREAS, the faculty and staff of Wiregrass have faithfully and continually served their students, adult learners, and businesses and industries in communities throughout the college's service delivery area by consistently delivering exceptional college and adult learning programs with outstanding levels of instruction, student services, and college administration; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine institution and its numerous contributions to the students of this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Wiregrass Georgia Technical College for creating an environment of success for Georgia students and congratulate the faculty, staff, and students on the school's recognition as 2010 Georgia Technical College of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.
