A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Karen Cox for her outstanding work in the field of education; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Karen Cox has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, a highly respected educator and administrator, Ms. Cox began her career with Fulton County Public Schools in 1981 as a health and physical education teacher at Westlake High School; and

WHEREAS, in 1989, she began service as a Health and Drug-Free Schools program consultant for the Fulton County School System, and in 1992 she became the school system's coordinator of health and physical education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cox has served as the system's coordinator for Continuous Improvement, championing the 8 Step Instructional Process to improve classroom instruction, and was named the first principal of Ridgeview Middle School in 2002; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure at Ridgeview Middle, Ms. Cox has overseen the school's successful transition to a charter program, supervised the school's renovation process, and managed the smooth transition to an International Baccalaureate program; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cox has recently accepted the position of Fulton County School System's Executive Director of Professional Learning; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily commend Ms. Karen Cox for her sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Karen Cox.
