A RESOLUTION


Recognizing March 1, 2011, as Columbus Day at the state capitol and inviting Mayor Teresa Tomlinson, Mr. Carmen Cavezza, Mr. Mike Gaymon, and Mr. Bob Jones to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Columbus region of Georgia is known for its fantastic visitor attractions, expansive economic growth and development, and beautiful natural landscapes; and

WHEREAS, the region is known for its public and private partnerships that have generated success for the area with projects such as the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts and the Valley Partnership Joint Development Authority; and

WHEREAS, for nearly 15 years, the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce has journeyed to larger cities around the country to learn how to improve the Columbus area and identify what steps can be taken to foster growth and development; and

WHEREAS, Columbus is home to numerous national and international companies, including Aflac, Carmike Cinemas, NCR, Fort Benning, Synovus, TSYS, and the W.C. Bradley Company; and

WHEREAS, Columbus currently features exciting attractions such as the 15 mile Riverwalk, the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, the Columbus Convention and Trade Center, the Columbus Civic Center and Skating Rink, the South Commons softball complex, historic Golden Park, a skateboard park, the Columbus Museum, the Springer Opera House, and the Liberty Theater; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of the Greater Columbus region are justly proud of their community, its past, and its many contributions to this state, and it is only proper to recognize March 1, 2011, as Columbus Day at the state capitol.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize March 1, 2011, as Columbus Day at the state capitol, congratulate the Greater Columbus region on its many outstanding accomplishments, and invite Mayor Teresa Tomlinson, Mr. Carmen Cavezza, Mr. Mike Gaymon, and Mr. Bob Jones to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
