RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta is a gender-specific, youth serving
organization that provides research based programs that help girls overcome the
effects of gender inequity and become self-sufficient, responsible, and
economically empowered women; and
WHEREAS,
founded in 1976, Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta has created invaluable
partnerships with more than 50 public schools, enabling the organization to
implement informal educational programs designed to encourage girls to take
informed risks and master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges;
and
WHEREAS,
over the past four decades, Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta has served
approximately 100,000 girls in the Atlanta area, working with about 3,000 young
women annually; and
WHEREAS,
although Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta has been known by other names
over the years, such as the Cobb-Marietta Girls Club, Girls Clubs of Cobb
County, Girls Incorporated of Cobb County, and Urban Girls Initiative Atlanta,
the mission has always been the same, to empower girls during their formative
years of becoming young adults; and
WHEREAS,
Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta now serves the needs of girls in the five
counties of metro Atlanta and has grown to stand as the leading organization
that addresses the needs of girls between the ages of six and 18, from low and
moderate income families, who seek safe and creative programs to improve their
life outcomes; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine
organization and its numerous contributions to the children of this state be
appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta for its nearly four decades of dedicated service to the girls of Atlanta.
