A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Terrell Academy football team on winning the 2008 GISA Class A State Championship and inviting the team to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, through perseverance and iron determination, the Terrell Academy football team earned the top ranking in the state with their 61-26 win over Thomas Jefferson High School; and

WHEREAS, the talented Eagles also claimed the title of GISA Region 2-A champions with their last regular season win over Randolph Southern School; and

WHEREAS, the 2008 Eagles had a most impressive offensive season, rushing the ball for 3,091 total yards, for an average of almost 238 yards per game, and passing the ball for a combined total of 1,828 yards, almost 141 yards per game; and

WHEREAS, the defensive skills of the Eagles were equally astounding, holding the team's 13 opponents to only 198 total points, averaging 15 points a game; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of coaches Bill Murdock, Donald Beard, Ashley Walker, Tate Parker, and Scott Gilley; and

WHEREAS, the 2008 championship team was Scotty Bishop, Daniel Crawford, Keaton Icard, Colby Johnson, John Garrett, Cody Smith, Webb McLendon, Niko Ayotte, Nick Alligood, Kyle Mims, Josh Mabrey, J.B. Jones, Garrett Freeman, Cole Phillips, Nick Beaver, Tinsley Short, Colby Blackburn, Trevor Phillips, Cole Byrd, Trent Walker, Caleb White, Caleb Nelson, Riley Davis, Tyler Beckum, Levi Griffin, Jonathan Farr, Brian Ambrose, Cody Vickers, Chandler Freeman, Chris Rogers, Thomas Flournoy, and Ran Lindsey; and
WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Terrell Academy football team for winning the 2008 GISA Class A State Championship, extend their sincerest best wishes for future success, and invite them to appear before the House of Representatives at an appropriate date and time to be designated by the Speaker of the House.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the players and coaches of the 2008 Terrell Academy football team.
