RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Walker Baptist Association; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Walker Baptist Association was organized in the fall of 1868 at a meeting of
representatives of seven distinct churches held with Ways Grove Baptist Church
in Stellaville, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
named in honor of the former pastor of Franklin Covenant church, reverend Joseph
Walker, the Walker Baptist Association epitomizes Reverend Walker's spirit, as
his divine wisdom and preaching rang true to all races; and
WHEREAS,
the first officers of the Walker Baptist Association were Reverend Peter Walker,
Brother Edward Young, and Brother Charles Young; and
WHEREAS,
the Walker Baptist Association is a nonprofit organization created with the
purpose of developing local programs to advance the cultural, educational, and
spiritual well-being of the community; and
WHEREAS,
this amazing organization establishes unity, fellowship, and cooperation among
residents of the community through workshops, seminars, and other programs;
and
WHEREAS,
the Walker Baptist Association has grown over the past two centuries to cover
Richmond, Burke, Jefferson, Jenkins, Screven, Emanuel, Johnson, and Columbia
counties; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for its innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the rich history of the Walker Baptist Association, commend
its years of dedicated service to the Lord and community, and extend their
warmest best wishes for its continued growth and success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Walker
Baptist Association.
