RESOLUTION
Commending
and honoring Dr. Josephine Tan, outstanding Georgia citizen; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Josephine Tan, has long been recognized as an outstanding community,
business, and civic leader with a deep personal commitment to the welfare of the
citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
she has served as an assistant professor of economics at the University of
Central Arkansas and senior economist with Georgia Power and currently serves as
Georgia Power's community development regional manager in the Metro East Region
of Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
in 2003, Dr. Tan was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue as the chairperson of
the Asian American Commission for a New Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community as evidenced by her
record of superlative service on the boards of the Asian American Chamber of
Commerce, the Korea Southeast United States Chamber of Commerce, and the Chinese
Community Center; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Tan is a remarkable entrepreneur and business leader and her significant
leadership talents and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of her
community have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and
associates as demonstrated by her receipt of numerous recognitions and awards,
including the U.S. Census Bureau's Leadership in Partnership Award, the Asian
American Chamber of Commerce's Exemplary Leadership Award, India American
Cultural Association's Friend of Community Award, and Georgia Power Southern
Style Excellence Award; she was also designated the Asian American Journalist
Association's Honoree and listed by
Atlanta
Woman magazine as one of the 25 Power
Women, placed by the
Women Looking
Ahead magazine on the "100 List of Most
Powerful Women," and named by
Atlanta
Magazine as one of the "Twenty Women
Making a Mark"; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Josephine Tan is a devoted wife to her husband Dr. K. J. Tan and loving
mother to their son; and
WHEREAS,
this distinguished lady is a person of magnanimous strengths, and, by the
example she has made of her life and work, she has made our state a better place
in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Dr. Josephine Tan for her effective, unselfish, and dedicated
public service and recognize her as an outstanding Georgia citizen.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Josephine
Tan.
