A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the memory of Reverend Jack Sosby and expressing regret at his passing; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Jack Sosby was known as someone who never neglected a person in need
and was always the first to offer an encouraging word and a helping hand;
and
WHEREAS,
he was born on September 1, 1928 in Franklin County, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a Baptist minister for more than 50 years at seven churches
including Harmony Hall Baptist Church in Gainesville and most recently at Pine
View Baptist Church in Augusta, and in his retirement he served as interim
associate pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Toccoa; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Sosby was a trusted spiritual leader to his parishioners and a beloved
mentor to many new clergy establishing strong connections to everyone he
encountered; and
WHEREAS,
he was especially recognized and appreciated for his never failing sense of
humor poignantly illustrated as he shared a joke with the ambulance drivers as
he was in transit to Emory University Hospital; and
WHEREAS,
his ministry was central to his life, and he enjoyed woodworking and was
especially proud of his grandsons, Jonathan Dan Sosby and William Blake Sosby;
and
WHEREAS,
he was preceded in death by his son, Roger Dales Sosby, and he is survived by
his wife, Evelyn Whitworth Sosby; his daughter, Jackie Sosby; two sisters, Ruth
Culpepper and Joyce English; and many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Reverend Sosby will long be remembered for his
love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, and friend will
be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Reverend Jack Sosby and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Reverend Jack Sosby.
