A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Marguerite Cline; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Marguerite Cline has been recognized for her outstanding public service and leadership, earning the 2009 First Citizen Award from the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, nominated for the award by William Teasley, Ms. Cline was found deserving of recognition for her many contributions to the community; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Reinhardt College, Ms. Cline earned a bachelor's and master's degree from North Georgia College and an education specialist degree from West Georgia College; and

WHEREAS, known for her Southern grace and creative nature, Ms. Cline's 14 year tenure as the mayor of Waleska earned her the title as the first woman to hold the position; and

WHEREAS, not only was this pioneer the first woman elected as mayor of Waleska, she was also the first woman elected as superintendent of Cherokee County schools and as chairperson of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, a self-proclaimed perfectionist, Ms. Cline has been recognized for her remarkable career with other awards such as Georgia School Superintendent of the Year, a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Reinhardt College, a Lamar Haley Community Service Award from the Rotary Club of Canton, a Robert S. Stubbs Ethics Award, a Coxe Award, and a Lee Arrendale Vocational Award; and

WHEREAS, also an award winning columnist, Ms. Cline has two books of her amazing and insightful newspaper columns and has hosted local television and radio shows; and

WHEREAS, active in all areas of community service, Ms. Cline is a current or past member of the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority Board, Reinhardt College's Board of Advisors and Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee, the Cherokee County Board of Health, WellStar Kennestone Hospital and Wachovia Bank's advisory boards, boards of the Falany Performing Arts Center, Cherokee County Arts Council, and Cherokee County CASA; and

WHEREAS, a charter member of Heritage Baptist Fellowship in Canton, Ms. Cline has served for over 50 years as the church's pianist and organist; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cline has proven herself to be an extremely effective public servant, approaching each challenge with determination and drive, and the State of Georgia is honored to have such a motivated and hard-working individual as one of its citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Ms. Marguerite Cline for her outstanding career, commend her for outstanding leadership abilities, and congratulate her on her 2009 First Citizen Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Cline.
