A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Honorable James "Jim" Malcolm Cole III; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Honorable James "Jim" Malcolm III Cole has served with great dedication as a member of the House of Representatives, and during his six years of service in the House of Representatives, he has been an effective and responsive public servant and a true friend; and

WHEREAS, he is a dynamic public servant who has faithfully represented the citizens of this state with great distinction and ability; and

WHEREAS, his consistently thorough consideration of the issues presented to this body and his integrity and reliability have rightfully earned him the honor, respect, and trust of his colleagues over the years and were recognized by the leadership of this body and properly reflected in his committee responsibilities which included serving as a member of the House Rules Committee, Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, and State Planning and Community Affairs Committee, and he has also held the distinguished positions of the Governor's Assistant Floor Leader from 2007 to 2008 and Senior Floor Leader from 2009 to the present; and

WHEREAS, Jim has always been approachable and has made his office available to his local government delegation at the Capitol, even to the point that some members swear that they have heard turkey calls emanating from his private office; and

WHEREAS, we recognize that Jim's constant smile hides an intense drive and dedication to public service, and that Jim is never without a task at hand, constantly expecting every minute of the day to be productive and encouraging those around him to do the same; and

WHEREAS, Representative Jim Cole will be leaving public service at the end of this year and will become the Athletic Director at his alma mater, Mercer University, where he received his MBA, played college baseball, went on to play professional baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers, and later coached and used his talents to become a successful business man and make Mercer University athletics competitive nationally; and

WHEREAS, he exhibited the highest level of political activism and unselfish leadership, and his stewardship in the House of Representatives has been marked by unmatched dignity, grace, and wisdom.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body unanimously honor and commend their most outstanding colleague, Honorable Jim Cole, for his tireless work and unparalleled service to our community; that this body thank Jim's wife Gaylyn and their children Caroline and Lawson for their support and sacrifices which allowed Jim to so ably serve; and extend to Jim and his family our heartfelt dedication and hope for success in future endevours.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable Jim Cole.
