RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Devereux United Methodist Church on the occasion of the 100th
anniversary of its sanctuary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the seeds which were sown by the loving and humble efforts of the devoted
original worshipers of Devereux United Methodist Church have blossomed,
establishing a rich tradition and history; and
WHEREAS,
in 1910, Devereux United Methodist Church built a sanctuary in the town of
Devereux, with the history of church members dating back to Reynolds Chapel
which was established in 1858; and
WHEREAS,
Devereux United Methodist Church has grown under the divine direction of
numerous pastors over the years, allowing the Word of God to spread throughout
the community; and
WHEREAS,
the congregation of this church has compiled an unparalleled record of
constructive, compassionate, and humanitarian service which it demonstrates
daily through open minds, open hearts, and open doors; and
WHEREAS,
members of Devereux United Methodist Church have a sincere desire to serve the
Lord and are wholeheartedly committed to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ;
and
WHEREAS,
in October of 2010, Devereux United Methodist Church celebrates the 100th
anniversary of its chapel with worship services followed by a dinner on the
ground, inviting all current and former members, friends, and community
associates to celebrate on October 24, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for its innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the rich history of Devereux United Methodist Church,
commend the centennial anniversary of its sanctuary and dedicated service to the
Lord and community, and extend their warmest best wishes for its continued
growth and success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Devereux
United Methodist Church.
