A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Jim McAfee; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Jim McAfee has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to
the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Union County, Georgia, Mr. McAfee attended Young Harris College and
the University of Tennessee-Knoxville; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. McAfee served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the
United States Navy, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans;
and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and energy to
the field of real estate for 35 years as an agent and broker and is a faithful
member of First United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. McAfee is united in love and marriage to his wife, Linda, and they have been
blessed with two remarkable sons, Britt and Brannon; and
WHEREAS,
in 2002, as a member of the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce, Mr.
McAfee established the Blairesville Scottish Festival & Highland Games,
which launched in June, 2004, and has been held every second weekend in June
since; and
WHEREAS,
the amazing annual event features Scottish clan gatherings, pipe and drum bands,
a parade of tartans, sheep herding, music workshops, a Scottish village exhibit,
and competitions in tossing the caber, tossing the sheaf, and weight toss for
distance; and
WHEREAS,
the Blairesville Scottish Festival & Highland Games promote cooperation and
goodwill between the Scottish clans and those in the United States, joining
hundreds of people, Scots and non-Scots alike, from throughout the United States
and the world; and
WHEREAS,
over the past decade, Mr. McAfee has helped this amazing event become one of the
top 20 events in the Southeast, and his leadership and vision are worthy of
recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Mr. Jim McAfee on his innovation behind the Blairesville
Scottish Festival & Highland Games and recognize his dedication to making
the event one of the best in the nation.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Jim
McAfee.
