A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending 24th Annual Heart of the Community Award Winner David Smith; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. David Smith has earned a reputation for community service and selfless dedication to others that has been recognized by the Heart of the Community Foundation, Inc., and the Redmond Regional Medical Center with his honor as a 2010 Heart of the Community Award; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1987, the Heart of the Community Foundation Award honors community leaders, with 157 individuals recognized for their altruistic service over the last 24 years; and

WHEREAS, the Heart of the Community Foundation has raised over $500,000.00 for the support of local heart related activities, community education, and local charities; and

WHEREAS, the 2010 Heart of the Community Award recipients will have donations made to a local charity in their honor; and

WHEREAS, a community leader, Mr. Smith is active with numerous organizations in Rome, Georgia, including Rome Floyd Habitat for Humanity, the Habitat HomeMart Committee, Tree-House for Rome project at Ridgeferry Park, the Rome Bar Association, the Floyd County Communities in Schools, and the Seven Hills Rotary Club; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Smith has been united in love and marriage to his wife, Karen, since 2002, and they have been blessed with a delightful child, Grady; and

WHEREAS, the benevolent and honorable deeds of this charitable man serve as a shining example of volunteerism, and the State of Georgia is honored and blessed to have Mr. Smith as a citizen.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. David Smith on his outstanding community service and congratulate him on the prestigious honor of being awarded a 2010 Heart of the Community Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. David Smith.
