A RESOLUTION


Recognizing May 9-15, 2010, as Women's Health Week; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a National Women's Health Week began at the dawn of the new millennium by a coalition of public and private organizations dedicated to raising awareness of women's health issues; and

WHEREAS, a National Women's Health Week occurs each spring with an annual celebration held the week following Mother's Day; and

WHEREAS, National Women's Health Week is a celebration of women taking responsibility for their own health through greater knowledge and understanding; and

WHEREAS, National Women's Health Week celebrates the efforts of national and community organizations working with partners and volunteers to improve awareness of key women's health issues; and

WHEREAS, this year's National Women's Health Week will be observed beginning Mother's Day, May 9, through Saturday, May 15, 2010; and

WHEREAS, in honor of National Women's Health Week, Georgia State University will promote various activities in the Atlanta area and beyond to encourage the spread of knowledge and understanding of women's health issues; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of Georgia State University and other fine organizations working to promote better health for women in this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the dedicated efforts of Georgia State University and other organizations working to promote healthy women in Georgia and recognize May 9-15, 2010, as Women's Health Week.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to members of the public and the press.
