RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Dr. Kenneth E. Marcus on the occasion of his 30th
pastoral anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Dr. Kenneth E. Marcus has demonstrated his commitment to teaching the
Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical,
psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Marcus was called by the Lord 30 years ago to spread the Word of God,
and over the past three decades, he has led the congregations of St. Luke/Nimno
Circuit of Athens and Greater Smith Chapel A.M.E. of Atlanta and currently leads
Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church as the church's senior pastor; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Trinidad, Reverend Marcus earned a bachelor's degree from Morris
Brown College, a master's degree in business administration from Atlanta
University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University;
and
WHEREAS,
his vision and direction have helped Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church grow in size
and influence from a small family of 150 to a mega congregation of over 6,000,
with close to 100 operating ministries, boards, and organizations;
and
WHEREAS,
over the past two decades, Reverend Marcus has overseen major expansion at
Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church, building a health and physical education facility
in 1999 and a cathedral which seats 3,000 in 2005; and
WHEREAS,
he has shepherded 100 associate ministers on the path to leading others to the
Kingdom of God, making a difference in countless lives; and
WHEREAS,
whether the task is preparing a sermon, visiting the sick, counseling the
troubled, baptizing a new believer, or acting as a theologian, educator,
administrator, or humanitarian, Reverend Marcus serves as a shining example of
God's righteous path; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Marcus is united in love and marriage to his co-pastor, Reverend Dr.
Cassandra Young Marcus, who is also an ordained elder of the church;
and
WHEREAS,
the unmatched spiritual assistance offered by Reverend Marcus is a source of
strength and direction for persons in all walks of life and from all economic
strata; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for his innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate Reverend Dr. Kenneth E. Marcus on the wonderful occasion
of his 30th pastoral anniversary and extend best wishes for many more years of
successful fellowship and leadership.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Dr.
Kenneth E. Marcus.
