RESOLUTION
Commending
Rabun Gene Way; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Rabun Gene Way has long been recognized for the vital role that he has played
through his service to his family, his community, and this state and has
diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents,
and energy to the improvement of his community and the State of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
he was born to James Lewis Way and Myrtice Lucille Sammons Way in Treutlen
County, Georgia, on February 12, 1935; and
WHEREAS,
he graduated from Montgomery County High School in 1953 and began working for
Lee Hardware Company; and
WHEREAS,
he worked for Lee Hardware until he was drafted into the United States Army in
1957; and
WHEREAS,
he received his basic training at Fort Jackson and was later stationed at the
Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama; and
WHEREAS,
in 1958, while serving in the Army, he married Sandra Harbin; and
WHEREAS,
after his discharge from the Army in 1959, he began working with Lee Finance
Company in Vidalia, Georgia, as a loan officer and attended Brewton Parker
College in the evenings, earning an associate degree in business;
and
WHEREAS,
he and Sandra settled in Mount Vernon and raised four wonderful children;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1976, he bought the finance business where he worked from Denham Lee and
still runs the business, now known as Way Acceptance Company;
and
WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of others have earned him the respect and admiration of his friends and his colleagues everywhere; and

WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished individual be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Rabun Gene Way for his outstanding and exemplary service to
this state, his community, and his family and extend to him their best wishes
for continued success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Rabun Gene
Way.
