A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the contributions of black contractors to the State of Georgia and declaring
February 5, 2009, as "Black Contractors Day in Georgia"; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
construction is the foundation of economic growth in this state and contributes
significantly to the quality of life of Georgia citizens; and
WHEREAS,
black contractors have been an integral part of Georgia's construction industry
and have made major, unparalleled contributions to its growth and development;
and
WHEREAS,
collectively, black contractors have a rich tradition of great service and have
promoted high standards of skill, craftsmanship, and professionalism within the
construction industry; and
WHEREAS,
even when confronted with barriers to full equality within the industry, black
contractors have held fast to their entrepreneurial spirit and have prevailed in
expanding their own opportunities for service and success; and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that black contractors be honored and recognized
for all that they have accomplished and the fine example they have
set.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the contributions of black contractors to the State of
Georgia and hereby declare February 5, 2009, as "Black Contractors Day in
Georgia."
