A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Charles Henry Arp, Sr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia and the United States mourns the loss of one of its most
distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Charles Henry Arp, Sr., on April
24, 2009; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Arp was born on May 30, 1931, in Polk County, Tennessee, a beloved son of
the late Carl Andrew Arp, Sr., and the late Ruby Brockman Arp; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Arp graduated from Copperhill High School, where he was an outstanding
football and basketball player; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Marine Corps, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans
from 1951 to 1953; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Arp earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Tennessee
Wesleyan and Western Carolina Universities and dedicated over 28 years to
challenging and uplifting the lives of students in Fannin County as an educator;
and
WHEREAS,
he began his career as a sixth grade teacher and football coach at McCaysville
Elementary School, and during his distinguished career as an educator, Mr. Arp
served as principal at Mobile Elementary, McCaysville Elementary, West Fannin
Junior High, and West Fannin Middle Schools; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Arp was passionate about providing children with the highest quality
education possible, set the standard for excellence in education in all his
positions, and earned the respect and admiration of his students, faculty, and
staff; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Arp was a lifelong member of the First
United Methodist Church of Copperhill, where he worshiped, sang, and held
numerous leadership positions; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Arp was united in love and marriage to Louise Chastain Arp in 1959 and was
blessed with three remarkable children, Charles, Andrew, and Lisa, and five
wonderful grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Arp will long be remembered for his love
of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Charles Henry Arp, Sr.,
and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mr. Charles Henry Arp, Sr.
